The findings of the study revealed that environmental sanitation is a very important aspect of human lives that must be given adequate attention so as to preserve the health of both the young and the old in the society. However, there are several factors that contributes to poor hostel sanitation practices among students which includes inadequate hygiene education, neglect of health facilities, insufficient water supply, inadequate toilet/latrine facilities, lack of dustbins, and disposing rubbish indiscriminately, which are known to be the major causes of diseases world-wide, hence, improving sanitation has a significant beneficial impact on health of both every individuals both students and non-students. Also, there are a lot health effects of poor hostel sanitation practices on students’ health which can invariably affect their academic performance and extracurricular activities in school. It was however recommended that government should ensure that policies regarding sanitation practices are enacted in tertiary institutions in Nigeria: school management should ensure that adequate sanitation practice is adhered to within the school campuses; and that the school management should ensure that health issues arising from poor sanitation practices are adequately attended to within the school campus.
