Abstract

In a time where the bounds between the physical and digital realms continue to blur, the world of theatre finds itself at a fascinating intersection. This study explores the intersection of theatre and virtual audience participation through the lens of transmediality, with focus on the renowned stage production of "The Lion King" as a paradigmatic case study. With advancements in technology and evolving audience preferences, the traditional boundaries of live theatre are increasingly facing challenges by digital platforms and immersive experiences. This study examines how theatrical performances, particularly "The Lion King," leverage transmedial storytelling techniques to engage both in-person and virtual audiences. By examining the production's use of multimedia elements, interactive platforms, and digital marketing strategies, this research aims to uncover the ways in which transmediality enhances audience immersion and expands the reach of live theatre beyond physical venues. Furthermore, this study explores the advantages of transmediality for the future of theatre, considering its potential to democratize access, foster global connectivity, and redefine the relationship between performers and audiences in the digital age. Through a comprehensive examination of "The Lion King" as a case study, this abstract contributes to a deeper understanding of how transmediality shapes contemporary theatrical experiences and opens new avenues for creative expression and audience engagement in the digital era.
