ABSTRACT

This study examine the health implication of poor waste management among residents in Benin metropolis, it helps to protect man’s environment and promotes his health, waste management, the major purpose of this research was to investigate whether improper disposal of waste have implication on the physical wellbeing of the residents in Benin metropolis; to examine whether improper waste disposal have much implication on the social wellbeing of the residents in Benin metropolis; Investigate the likely implication of poor waste management on the health of people of the residents in Benin metropolis and to educate and enlighten the people on the need for a healthy and safe environment and advise them on proper waste management.

For hypothesis one (H01), The result of the study revealed that the calculated chi — square value is greater than (>) table value, so. H01 was rejected meaning that poor waste management have much implications on physical wellbeing among residence of Benin metropolis for hypothesis two ( H02), it was revealed that the calculated chi — square value is greater than (>) table value, so H(2 was rejected meaning that poor waste management have much implications on social wellbeing. lastly, for hypothesis (H03).calculated chi - square value is greater than (>) table value, so H03 was rejected, meaning that poor waste management have significant implications on their mental health.

The major findings of this research is to effect Poor waste management have implications on physical wellbeing of residents in Benin Metropolis, Poor waste management have implications on social wellbeing of residents in Benin Metropolis, Poor waste management have implications on mental wellbeing of residents in Benin Metropolis. And Poor waste management have implications on physiological wellbeing of residents in Benin Metropolis. It was therefore recommended that the government at all levels should see health and well being as the primary need of the citizens and should be given priority by allocating sufficient funds for the health sector and ensure utilization of the funds for the purpose for which it was allocated. Good waste transport system must also be made available through the provision of waste vehicles/trucks which collect, transport and dispose the generated waste. Government through the ministry of health and health agencies should enlighten the public through health talks, seminars, announcements on radio and television, on the evils of poor waste management. And also to reduce smoke and its effects in the community it is recommended that refuse and waste burning within residential places should be discouraged by attaching appropriate sanction so as to force people to desist from unhealthy act.
