ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the health and environmental impact of improper solid waste management in Benin City. four research questions were raised and analyzed for the study. The cross-sectional descriptive research design was used for this study. The population for this study was a sample size of 400 from the Ugbowo and the Ring-road axis in Benin City. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The researcher supervisor and two experts from the Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education, validated the questionnaire. Their corrections and observation helped in the production of the final copy of the instrument. The reliability of the instrument was established using the split-half method. The instrument was administered by the researcher and the data collected was subjected to descriptive statistics. The findings of the study are as follows, the majority of the respondents had a high level of awareness and knowledge regarding the effect of improper waste management in Benin City, and the major factor militating against proper waste management in Benin City is inadequate waste disposal facility and rapid urbanization, the majority of the respondents responded that the government should offer incentives for recycling waste to promote waste reduction. the majority of the respondents have high knowledge of diseases caused by improper waste disposal. The researcher made recommendations to curb the menace of Improper solid waste management in Benin City.
