ABSTRACT
The study examined “Harnessing Creative and Innovative Potentials for Industrial Growth and Development”. The broad objective of the study was to examine how creative and innovation potentials can be harnessed for industrial growth and development in Nigeria. The specific objectives were to determine: the extent to which social capital stimulates creativity in Nigeria amongst others, the degree to which cultural capital stimulates creativity in Nigeria. The cross sectional survey research design was adopted and the population of the study consisted of all the employees of Zenith Bank Plc and Nigerian Bottling Company Plc, both in Benin City. Stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting the sample; staff status formed the basis of stratification while randomization was on the basis of lottery. Research data were analyzed using multiple regression model. The research revealed significant positive relationship between creativity and network of social connections; a significant positive relationship between creativity and network of social connections; a significant positive relationship between industrial growth and development on one hand. But its relationship with specific conditions is inverse and non-significant. The study concluded that network of social connections stimulates creativity and innovation among employees in the banking and soft drink industry in Nigeria. The research project recommended (i) the need for policy makers involvement to map out strategies to harness the creative potentials of the citizenry in other to stimulate industrial growth and development and (ii) the need for managers in corporate entities to devise means to harness the creative potential of the employees to create value and thus contribute to the enhancement of economic growth and development.
