ABSTRACT
This study investigated the influence of guidance and counseling services on career choice of secondary school students in Ovia North East local government. Four research questions were raised and four hypotheses were formulated for the study. The study adopted descriptive survey research design in sampling the opinions of senior secondary students in the study area. The population of the study was 5439 senior secondary students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Through multistage sampling technique, 150 respondents of the population were selected. The instrument used in this study for the collection of data is the questionnaire. A questionnaire entitled “The influence of guidance and counseling services on career choice of secondary school students questionnaire (IIGCDSCSSSQ). The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Frequencies were used in analyzing the bio-data of the respondents; statistical mean. The findings from analyzed data shows that there is a significant relationship between educational counseling services, career counseling services, personal social counseling services, information services and career choice of secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made which include: guidance and counselling service should encourage by all stakeholders and Secondary school students should possess positive attitude towards counseling services as such services help to prevent them from making wrong career decision and also boost their academic performance.
