ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of feeding broiler birds with aqueous extracts of Justicia carnea and turmeric rhizome on their growth rate. A total of 112 broiler chickens were divided into 4 Treatments and subjected to varying concentrations of the plant extracts in their drinking water of equal volume. Over a period of 8 weeks, measurements of growth parameters including body weight, weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio were recorded and analyzed. Results indicate that the administration of aqueous extracts of Justicia carnea and turmeric rhizome did not show significant difference (>0.05) onthe growth rate of broiler birds compared to control groups. However better numerical treatment values were obtained in the plant justicia carnae extract groups over treatment those of the control for final body weight ;whereas for the turmeric treatment group, the final body weight were below those of the control In conclusion, the supplementation of broiler bird diets with aqueous extracts of Justicia carnea improve the final body weight of the birds, demonstrating the potential of natural supplements in enhancing poultry productivity. Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and optimize supplementation strategies for maximum efficacy in poultry production.
