ABSTRACT

Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) were successfully deposited on glass substrates at room temperature (270C), using improved solution growth technique (SGT) at 0.12M and varying deposition times of 12 hours, 18 hours and 30 hours. The glass slides were degreased by soaking them in concentrated Hydrochloric acid for three days, rinsed in distilled water and dried. A 765S double spectrophotometer was used to measure the Absorbance Spectra (A) data at wavelength range from 327nm to 1090nm. Other optical properties and solid-state properties of the films were computed from the data and compared with the other deposited thin film. The average optical and solid properties includes: absorbance (A) = 0.007 – 0.008, transmittance (T) = 0.982 – 0.984, Reflectance(R) = 0.009 – 0.01, absorbing power (α) = 0.016 x 106 m-1 – 0.018 x 106 m-1 , Refractive index (n) = 1.209 – 1.222, Film thickness (t) = 2.6667 – 1.0100 and bandgap (Eg) = 1.7 – 2.1eV. It is observed that the films have n ˃ 1.2, these films could find useful applications as: (i) construction of poultry house, (ii) solar cells (iii) anti-dazzling coatings. The deposited thin films with band gap (Eg) within light energy range (≈ 1.7 – 2.1 eV) of electromagnetic spectrum could find application in solar electricity for rural electrification to improve the standard of living, telecommunication, remote monitoring and control system.
