GROUNDWATER QUALITY ANALYSIS AROUND 3RD CEMETERY

ABSTRACT

The present study investigates if the internment of corpses in Third cemetery is altering the water quality of the groundwater of the environs around the Third cemetery and to ascertain the level of conformity of the water sample gotten from each location around Third cemetery, Benin City, Edo State to the WHO standard for drinking water. It the course of this project different groundwater samples were taken from boreholes located in the peripheral area of Third Cemetery in Benin City. The samples where all given a Water Quality Index test which includes the pH, BOD, COD, DO, Temperature, Electrical conductivity, Total Suspended Solid as well as tests on heavy metals using the Atomic absorption spectrometer, The results show that the Water Quality index for the water samples are all OK for consumption according to the current standards set forth by WHO.
