ABSTRACT

Groundwater development was carried out at Ikpeshi  and its environ in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria and it was aimed at identifying the Subsurface Lithology  the use of Vertical Electrical Sounding and it’s also to determine the depth to water table. ABEM Terra meter, Electrodes, Global Positioning System, DC battery etc. was used. At site, four vertical electrical sounding was carried out to determine and disclose the subsurface lithology and the depth to water table. The end result of VES showed Twenty Geo-electric layers in complete from VES 1 to 4, the interpreted end result is presented as sounding curves and descriptive geo-electric section. VES 1 is Silt with Resistivity of 24.032Ωm to 3140.3Ωm, the water recharge is small, water yield is low and effortlessly dry up, the curve type is HKH curve, P1<P2>Pas shown in Figure 5 and 6, and it has six Geo-electric layers. VES 2  is also Silt  with resistivity of 68.950Ωm to 9337Ωm, it has infinity and the curve type is HAA curve, P1<P2<P3  as shown in Figure 7 and 8, it has five Geo-electric layers. VES 3 is a medium sand with resistivity 81.133Ωm to 61555Ωm and infinity as the curve type is HAA curve, P1<P2<P as shown in Figure 9 and 10, and it has five Geo-electric layers also. VES 4 printed to have exceptional fine sand with a basement complex of apparent resistivity of 638.59Ωm and 60497Ωm, the curve type is HAA curve, P1<P2<P3 as shown at figure 11 and figure 12 proven to be with excessive water yield and it can’t be effortlessly contaminated by using surface run off and a Geo-electric layers of four. Determination of the subsurface lithology and the proper depth revealed the actual depth gotten from this result to be 8.7414m the Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) has a spread of 400m. Its encouraged that earlier than any groundwater can be developed and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) tool’s should be carried out in this study location because it helps in planning groundwater development and Geo-physicist be presented to help attain the actual depth of water table and the lithologies of the subsurface.
