ABSTRACT

This study examined the sources, quality and reuse potentials among households in residence of Benin city, in relation to water demand management. Grey water samples of bathing water, kitchen water and laundry water were collected from residential areas and tested to determine the quality and reuse which is part of the objectives of the study. Grey water samples collected from the residence were analyzed and the result were presented in tables and graph. The results analyzed showed that the quality of grey water among household are closely related to the WHO permissible standard of water quality. The study shows the various uses like agricultural irrigation, Ground water recharge, construction, fire protection, snow generation that grey water harvested by household in residential areas can be put into, and the various process of treating the water which include: physical, chemical, and biological processes. The results of the grey water analyzed show that though grey water is an alternative source of water, it is not commonly practiced in Benin City. The study shows that grey water holds great potentials among households by reducing stress and pressure on available portable water and as such grey water use should be embraced and practiced among household in Benin City.
