ABSTRACT

This research investigates the green synthesis of magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles (NPs) using Azadirachta indica (Neem leaf) extract. The study aims is to use the green synthesis approach for the synthesis of MgO nanoparticles using Neem leaf extract. The MgO nanoparticles was synthesized using the extract prepared from neem leaves and the characterization techniques used in this research include UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transfer Infrared Radiation (FTIR) and phytochemical screening. The result from the UV-Vis spectroscopy showed that the MgO nanoparticles showed a high absorption peak at 0.350 absorbance spectrum at a wavelength of 222 nm, the XRD confirmed the crystalline nature and average crystalline size of the MgO nanoparticles to be 17.2nm using the Scherer’s equation, the FTIR gave information about the Mg-O stretching vibration as noted at 885.44 cm-1 and 852.96 cm1 of the FTIR graph, the morphology of the nanoparticles synthesized was found to be a fused but irregularly shaped particles from the SEM result observed, and the phytochemical screening showed the presence of certain phytochemicals such as…….molecules in the extract which was serve as effective reducing and stabilizing agent for the synthesis of MgO NPs. In conclusion, this research work successfully synthesized MgO from Azadirachta indica.
