Abstract
The study examined the effect of some variables such as claim payment, inflation rate, interest rate, exchange rate on the performance of insurance companies in Nigeria. Time series data spanning 2009 to 2021 was subjected to preliminary test of descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, Ordinary least square regression analysis. Thereafter, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression techniques were adopted. The findings from empirical analysis indicated that generally; Claim payment has no significant effect on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria. Interest rate has a significant effect on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria. International exchange to local currency has a significant effect on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria which has affected the Return on asset. Inflation rate which is continuous raise in the price over the years has a significant effect on the performance of insurance industry in Nigeria.
