ABSTRACT
Global warming refers to the rise in average temperature of the Earth's climate system. It is a global phenomenon with a number of effects that is happening at the global level. This research examines global warming. It also examines how global warming poses a great threat to our personal lives and also to our world as a whole. The study discusses the causes and effect of global warming. The research showed that global warming is caused majorly by the production of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and chloroflurocarobns. The harmful compounds release by human and natural activities, such as gas flaring, fossil fuel combustion, transportation, volcanic eruptions, soil respiration and decomposition. The research shows that the global warming leads to increase in average temperature, heavier storms, higher death rates, more acidic oceans, dirtier air, low food supply, and poor weather patterns. The research therefore provides the conventions, legislations and agencies made in relation to global warming, such as the Kyoto Protocol, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, NESREA Act. However, to reduce global warming, more actions need to be taken rather than just becoming signatories to international laws. Government must enact domestic laws on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions if international efforts to stall global warming are to succeed. This research therefore recommends that humans should make efforts to tackle global warming instead of increasing the earth’s temperature. Each country should enact and enforce laws of its own regulating global warming.
