ABSTRACT
The study evaluated the factors responsible for the development of the gully at the Iguosa Housing Estate by utilizing information from geotechnical investigation. From the study, the following conclusion has been drawn: i. The gully head retreat can be ascertained from the analysis of the geotechnical properties of the soil in the catchment precipitation data. ii. The causative factors responsible for the gully development at the Iguosa Housing Estate are improper channeling of drains, low clay content of soil, and lack of vegetative cover and hence structural and non-structural measures is suggested for the control of the gully erosion. iii. The geotechnical test carried out on the soil samples collected from the gully site shows an average plastic index 13.18% which is less than 35%, it clearly shows that the soil lacks enough binding/cementing particle of grain size passing0.075mm sieve.
