ABSTRACT

Pavement failure has contributed immensely for loss of lives, disruption in the normal daily movement and rise in the cost of transportation. So is the case of Illah-Ebu road, which is a route through which cash crops and other agricultural products are being transported from the Northern to Southern part of Nigeria. During this study, it was observed that the pavement failure peculiar to this road were Potholes, Alligator cracks, Raveling and Failed sections. Samples were taken from the failed sections of the road segments and transported to the laboratory were the following tests were performed: Moisture content, Particle size distribution (Sieve Analysis), Atterberg limit , Compaction and the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) Test in accordance with B.S.1377:1990 These tests helped to identify the index properties and the characteristic strength of the soil sample.
