ABSTRACT

Five (5) samples were obtained from Komu pegmatite, southwestern Nigeria, The samples were  subjected to AAS analysis to determine the major and minor elemental composition  of the pegmatitic rock. The results obtained show the predominance of SiO₂ (46.54wt.%wt.%) and Al₂O₃ (23.77wt.%-25.23wt%)  and minor occurrence P₂O₅ (0.01wt.%-0.03wt.%) CaO(0.03wt.%-0.22wt.% )  TiO₂  (0.02 wt.%-0.22wt.%) and also trace elements.. The  high Silica and Alumina content depict the complexity of the pegmatite rock .. The pegmatite is significantly  enriched with Lithium (Li) and its pathfinder elements. This element shows the extent of mineralization and presence of several minerals associated with the  rock body.  The predominance of A₂lO₃ makes it suitable for extraction of aluminum metal and Aluminium- based product.
