ABSTRACT
The geochemical and refractory properties of Oduna clay body in Southern, Nigeria were investigated. The aim was to determine the suitability of the clay for refractory purposes. The samples were obtained within the latitude of N06°13'15" - 06°14'16.1" and Longitudes E005°26'10" - 005°26"13.2"on Benin City Sheet 298. Thr geochemistry analysis was carried out using X-ray Florescence (X-RF) machine. The chemical analysis revealed that Oduna clay principally contains silica and alumina, of TOD 1, 50.44%, TOD 3, 55.33%, TOD 4 55.86% for (SiO2) and TOD 1, 26.96 %, TOD 3, 26.52%, TOD 4, 31.37% for (Al2O3) respectively. Othe oxide were found in the clay at various low values, except samples TOD 2 and TOD 5 which had very high values of Na2O (42.44% and 47.57%} respectively. From these results it can be concluded that Oduna clay is a potential raw materials for refractory bricks for furnace linings, Fireclay and ceramics manufacturing.
