ABSTRACT
Clay samples were collected from Obadolovbiyeyi and Iguoriakhi in Southern Nigeria with the aim of running geochemical analysis for the samples. The samples were taken to the laboratory and Subjected to XRF and XRD analysis. From the mineralogical and geochemical analyses it was observed that both clay bodies have different characteristic and mode of formation. Comparison between both clay bodies shows that they both contain high amount of quartz which was 56.09% for Obadolovbiyeyi and 49.3% for Iguoriakhi which suggest that quartz is a major constitute of both clays body as it has the highest composition of both Clay body. Feldspar 4%, quartz 56.9%, kaolin 11.2%, illite 13.1%, montmorilite 3.73%. Both clay bodies differ in the presence of kaolin, Mica, Feldspar and Illite which was not present in the clay body from Obadolovbiyeyi. The later has minerals such as Feldspar 4%, quartz 56.9%, kaoline 11.2%, illite 13.1%, montmorilite 3.73%. This suggestive that both clays bodies were from similar sources and were formed under simliar conditions.
It can be said that the clay from Obadolovbiyeyi is more mature than that of Iguoriakhi and has undergo more weathering process.
