SUMMARY
An environmental study was judiciously conducted within Uzere host community and its environs with a view to ascertaining the contaminant status or level of impairment resulting from hydrocarbon exploitation on both soil and water quality of the geo-environment. The study necessitated the determination of the textural characteristics of soil samples both around or close radius the well-head and at some considerable distance away from the well-head platform (reference samples). In addition, some physico-chemical parameters of both soil and water samples in the area were determined. Pollution indices were equally used with reference to heavy metals to identify the spatial distribution and the root cause of those metals presence within the environment in order to influence decision making. Hence, the results obtained were compared with established regulatory criteria of World Health Organization (WHO 2017, SON 2012) and background values.
