ABSTRACT
This experiment was conducted to estimate how genotypes affect the body temperature of rabbits and its resultant effects on rabbits’ performance characteristics. The experiment was carried out at the University of Benin's Teaching and Research Farm in Edo State, Nigeria A total of twenty (20) rabbits, four (4) bucks, and sixteen (16) does of New Zealand white, Chinchilla, Hyla, and Dutch breeds. The experiment ran from April 2023 to August 2023. Body temperature were collected twice daily at 10:00 AM and at 04:00 PM using an infrared thermometer while weekly weight gain was taken using a sensitive scale. The body temperature of the animals was taken while they were placed on a table and holding the infrared thermometer at 30mm – 50mm away from the animal’s forehead. Data obtained were subjected to ANOVA using the IBM SPSS while the Means were separated using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at significance level of p<0.05.
