ABSTRACT

This project conducts a feminist analysis of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, examining the gender roles and expectations of women in the novel. Through a close reading of the text, this study reveals how Austen's work reflects and challenges traditional gender roles and societal expectations of women during the late 18th century. The analysis explores how the female characters, particularly Elizabeth Bennet, navigate and negotiate these expectations, and how the novel portrays the limitations and restrictions placed on women during this time period. This project contributes to the field of feminist literary criticism, highlighting the relevance of Austen's work to contemporary feminist issues and demonstrating the enduring power of Pride and Prejudice as a thought-provoking text for modern readers. Ultimately, this study sheds light on the ongoing struggles and triumphs of women in society, and the importance of individual choice and agency in challenging and transforming gender roles and expectations.
