ABSTRACT
Since sustainable democratic government relies upon the participation of all citizens in determining through elections and political processes, who governs them, the imperative of women's involvement in political and human development cannot be over emphasized. This study has examined the spate of women's participation in politics in Nigeria, particularly Edo state under the new dispensation of a democratic government since 1999.Various statistical techniques including chi-square, correlation simple percentages were employed to test some hypotheses. The results that emanated from critical analysis indicated that some socioeconomic factors are predicators of the low women's political participation. Such factors hold a significant influence in Edo State. It also revealed that political structure contribute significantly to low women's involvement in political activities in Edo state. The results also established a significant relationship between Nigeria's political structure and low women's participation in politics of the two Edo state.
