ABSTRACT

Gender-based discrimination is prohibited under almost every human rights treaty. Despite much progress made in securing women’s rights globally, millions of women and girls continue to experience discrimination and violence, being denied of their equality, dignity and autonomy, and even a life. This discrimination and violence against women and girls, deeply rooted in the fabric of societies, is persistent and systematic. Hence this research work is set to critically examine the effects of women discrimination. This work employed the descriptive research method. . In order to ascertain reliable data, various methods of data collection were employed these includes oral interview and personal observation, literatures were reviewed. Journal, articles and internet were consulted. Finally, this research work revealed the following: women are always at the verge of being exploited and treated as second class citizen due to their gender. It also elucidated the discrimination in the various sectors in the society; family, politics, religion etc. it shows the effects and dangers of discriminating women in the society, as it leads to stagnancy in the development of the society. Finally it shows the need for women rights and its preservation.
