GATE-KEEPING PROCESS AS A CATALYST

ABSTRACT

Over the years, the media have come to be recognized and valued on a global scale as the watchdogs of society, with their informational and oversight functions being seen as a sine qua non for democracy and sound government. In order to determine the extent to which media gatekeeping might act as a catalyst for encouraging transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in the governance process, the study looks into the relationship between media gatekeeping and good governance. The questionnaire used in the study served as the instrument for gathering data.  In order to collect information from 100 employees of chosen media outlets in Benin City, Edo State, a 10-item questionnaire was used. Simple percentage and frequency calculations were used to examine the acquired data, which were displayed in tables.
