ABSTRACT

The problem of poor funding is central to the challenges faced by educational theatres across the country. This status quo has impeded optimal quality delivery of stage productions and thus defeated the cardinal goals of theatre arts institution. Apparently, with the monumental challenges of poor or lack of proper funding, educational theatre can hardly contribute meaningfully to nation building, if the contending issues are not addressed. In order to resolve the problem, this research endeavour attempts to make an advocacy on sources of Funding for Nigeria Educational Theatre: Uniben Theatre in Perspective. The position of this study is that there should be a well established alternative sources of funding so that we will not make up one day to see that there is no more theatre arts institution in our educational sector. In achieving the objectives of this study, the researcher employed full content analysis of literature, magazines, encyclopedia, articles and online materials. It was found in the course of carrying out this study that mismanagement of fund, underfunding and corruption as the integral parts of the problems of funding in education theatre. The researcher thereby recommends that loopholes of corruptions and losses should be sealed up while the gains of educational theatre should be maximized.
