FUNCTIONS AND IMPORTANCE OF TIME MANAGEMENT IN THE THEATRE

ABSTRACT

This study examined the functions and importance of time management in the theatre, using the university of Benin theatre, Edo state, as a case study. The study will be carried out with the use of qualitative research methodology under the survey method, to get answers through open-ended questions from theatre practitioners. The following are the research questions; To what extent is time management related to the theatre? What is the importance of time management to the theatre? The research findings indicate that effective and efficient time management is crucial for efficient usage of time in the theatre. Time management is essential for the success of a theatre production, as it helps achieve its goals, avoid underplaying, and ensures the audience's satisfaction. From the research conducted, the following are suggested; every Theatre Enterprise should take seriously into consideration the functions and importance of time management which will in turn result to effective performances/productions. Theatre leaders and especially Theatre Managers are the ones saddled with the responsibility of maintaining and ensuring that time management principles are properly implemented and adhered to in the theatre and there should be clear plans in a very concise and orderly manner stating all the necessary procedures that are required to be fulfilled before and after the production.
