Poly X is a Poly Herbal Formulation which comprises of the bark of Cinnamomum Verum, calyyx of Hibiscus sabdariffa, buds of Syzygium aromaticum and rhizomes of Zingiber officinale. Earlier studies have shown that the plants have antioxidant properties and they have been used in anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory treatment. This study is thus aimed to fractionate, identify and analyze the compound. The plant samples were pulverized, mixed and extracted with Hydro-ethanol and fractionation was done with n-butanol in a separating funnel. The fraction was analyzed using techniques such as GCMS and HPLC to identify and quantify the bioactive compounds and the antioxidant activity was determined by Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC), 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), Ferric ion Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS) assays. The n-butanol fraction of Poly X revealed significant antioxidant capacity and the chromatographic analysis displayed the presence of Gallic acid, Caffeic acid, Beta-caryophyllene, Nipecotic acid, Quercetin and 2-Pyrrolidinone.
Hence, the n-butanol fraction of Poly X demonstrates antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties.
