ABSTRACT

Polyherbal formulations have gained significant attention due to their synergistic effects, offering a broader spectrum of bioactive compounds. This procedure involves taking advantage of the medicinal benefits provided by combination of multiple herbs. This study focuses on the fractionation, identification of n-hexane fraction of a poly X formulation comprising (Syzygium aromaticum), (Hibiscus sabdariffa), (Zingiber officinale), and (Cinnamomum verum). The polyherbal mixture was selected based on aclamied rich phytochemical compositions and traditional medicinal benefits of its individual components. The Aqueous fraction of the poly X was fractionated using n-hexane solvent. The fraction was then subjected to analysis for identification and quantification of its bioactive constituents using High-performance liquid chromatograpy (HPLC). Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis revealed the presence of volatile compounds in the n-hexane fraction, including eugenol from cloves, anthocyanins from hibiscus, gingerol from ginger, and cinnamaldehyde from cinnamon. These bioactive compounds are known for their antioxidant properties and contribute to the overall health benefits of the polyherbal mixture. The synergistic interactions among the bioactive compounds present in the mixture likely contribute to its enhanced health benefits compared to individual herbs. Overall, this study highlights the importance of fractionation and identification techniques in elucidating the bioactive components of polyherbal mixtures. The findings underscore the potential of the n-hexane fraction from the clove, hibiscus, ginger, and cinnamon mixture as a natural antioxidant source with promising therapeutic applications in oxidative stress-related disorders. Further research is recommended to explore its efficacy in vivo and its potential for pharmaceutical or nutraceutical development
