ABSTRACT

In recent years, the frequency and intensity of flooding events have escalated globally, posing significant challenges to urban areas, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria. Benin City, the capital of Edo State in Nigeria, faces recurrent inundation, exacerbating socio-economic vulnerabilities and environmental degradation. This abstract presents a comprehensive framework for building flood-resilient neighborhoods in Benin City, integrating multi-disciplinary approaches encompassing urban planning, infrastructure development, community engagement, and policy interventions. The proposed framework acknowledges the complex interplay between socio-economic factors, environmental conditions, and governance structures that shape vulnerability to flooding. By adopting a holistic perspective, the framework emphasizes proactive measures to mitigate flood risks, enhance adaptive capacities, and foster sustainable development.
