FIRM ATTRIBUTES AND INVESTMENT DECISION

ABSTRACT

This study examines firm attributes and investment decision. Specifically, the study determine the effect of firm size, and firm age, firm profitability and leverage. In this study, Ten (10) service firms which have been listed in the Nigerian Exchange Group(NGX) was selected as the sample using binary probabilistic regression model and data was collected from these firm’s annual financial reports of year 2022. The ex-post facto research design was used in this study. This means that the data is already stored and cannot be manipulated by the researcher. The population of the research study comprises of ten(10) manufacturing firms quoted on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX). As at present, there are about twenty-two multinational companies quoted on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX, 2022) and a census of ten(10) selected firm's of the multinational companies listed in the NGX will be used for this study. This study adopts both descriptive and correlation analysis.Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis will be employed, while the data regression will be used to determine the effect of firm attributes on investment decisions. The findings of the study showed that firm size significantly and positively affects corporate investment decisions of multinational firms in Nigeria. Firm age significantly and negatively affect investment decisions in Nigeria. The study also showed that firm profitability exact insignificant and positive relationship on investment decisions of multinational firms in Nigeria. Base on the findings, the study concluded that the multi-dimensionality of investment decisions necessitate a targeted approach for policymakers and stakeholders who aim to bolster investment decisions in the Nigerian multinational corporate sector and recommended that, larger firms leverage their scale to invest more. This is crucial, not only for the sake of transparency but also as a strategy to bolster their corporate image and stakeholder trust.
