ABSTRACT

This research work has examined FIFA as a non-state actor in the international political system using world cup 2014-2022 as case studies. The study showed that sports generally and football in particular have been of huge economic and social benefits to the host nations from 2014-2022. Hence, hosting world cups has become one important area of how a country is viewed globally. The involvement of every country in football further emphasizes the indubitable fact that football occupies a prime place in world affairs. Hence different countries struggle to dominate others in different sporting activities. It historicizes FIFA thereby throwing more light on how FIFA came to be independent, its role in social development, is economic impacts on the host countries of the 2014-2022 world cup and its importance in the world politics. The study attempted to articulate the impact of FIFA as a non-state actor in the host nations of the world cups held from 2014-2022. The study examines the development of FIFA, it's function as an International governing body of football, the economic and social impact of hosting the world cup on the host nations respectively.
