ABSTRACTÂ
Fertility capability classification was carried out on a 40 hectare of land in Iguzama community, Edo state to assess the native fertility status of the soils. Different soils types were identified through soil survey procedures that produced three mapping units. Each mapping units were represented with one modal profiles. Profiles were sunk, described sampled and analyzed using standard laboratory methods. The result shows that the two FCC units were present in the study area. The FCC units are LCn-em and SLNKem from the three mapping units. They include mapping unit 1 with FCC unit LCn-em, 30% of the study area of the study area. The Type of the topsoil is Loam overlaying Clay subsoil. Mapping unit 2 and mapping unit 3 SLNKem covers 25% and 45% of the area with Sandy topsoil and Loamy subsoil. The pedons are all characterized by m (low Organic Carbon), low nutrient reserves especially potassium constraints. This indicates that the soils of Iguzama are quite fertile and application of Organic manure (soil amendment) and acidifying fertilizer that contains elemental sulphur to the soils, enhance cation exchange capacity, addition of biochar to solve the problem of leaching of nutrients prevalent in the area to improve the inherent soil fertility.
