ABSTRACT

Animal production is still being limited by feed scarcity due to fast growing human population. In an attempt to broaden the use of less expensive feed resources, a feed resource was developed using bread waste and cassava peels. Asurvey was carried out in Benin City using a questionnaire. This study showed that bread waste is less common in the bakery. Plain and sardine bread at dayone, three, five, eight and twelve were analyzed for microbial growth. The microbial growth was observed to be at its peak at day twelve. Feed resource was developed by using bread waste and cassava peels at varying levels (100:0, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25 and 0:100) and allowed to age. The developed feed was analyzed for proximate composition. Results showed that the dry matter ranged between37.95– 41.37%, the CP ranged between 3.722 – 8.000%, the crude fibre ranged between 0.257 – 0.843%, the ether extract ranged between 6.11 -11.56%, ash ranged between 0.229 – 0.873%, and the nitrogen free extract ranged between 81.40 -86.34%. This showed that the developed feed resource can be used to replace expensive conventional feed ingredients.
