ABSTRACT

In this case study from Ovia North-East Local Government Area, researchers looked at the relationship between parents' health habits and their children's growth and development. The purpose of this case study was to inquire into and emphasize the connection between family health and child development in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area. The study aimed to answer the following research questions about the impact of families on children's growth and development: how much of an impact do families have, how do unhealthy family lifestyles impede children's growth and development, and what are the benefits of healthy family lifestyles on children's growth and development? A total of 301 people were chosen at random using a questionnaire as the research instrument through a process called Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. The study of the questionnaire results led to the conclusion that the family is the first educational environment, as it is within the family that every individual or kid receives education and supervision. Since a person or child spends the most of his or her time at home with his or her family, it stands to reason that the majority of his or her education will take place at home with his or her relatives. The family is the smallest social unit and consists of two things: a group of people who share a home because of biological ties, marriage, or adoption; and those people sharing a home, being led by a patriarch, and sharing a meal together. They work together, each with their own roles, to build and sustain a culture. A child's development entails not only the unrestrained growth of the child's perception of growth, but also a sequence of ongoing and fixed changes in the child's bodily and spiritual functions as he or she grows, matures, and learns to reach the stage of adulthood.  Conclusions and recommendations were drawn from the research, with one of them being that the government should do more to spread the word about the positive effects of leading a healthy lifestyle at home on children. There has to be a steady supply of well-trained social workers who can easily meet the needs of children and their families. The goal is to help the family make certain adjustments that will improve their quality of life as a whole.
