ABSTRACT
This study examined the relationship between family background and Student Academic Performance of Junior secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area, of Edo state. Four (4) research questions were raised and four (4) hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The respondents sampled were 2000 students, and was accessed from 10 public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state. A self-constructed questionnaire was used to collect data. The research instrument was subjected to face and content validity. The research instrument has a reliability coefficient of 0.98 using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) at 0.05 level of significance. The hypotheses were tested using t-test and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The findings revealed that: there was a significant difference between parents' socioeconomic status and students' academic performance, There was no significant difference between parents' occupations and students' academic performance, There was a significant difference between parents' educational level and students' academic performance, There was a significant relationship between family size and students' academic performance.
