ABSTRACT

In recent decades, the changing role of voluntary organizations in administering social welfare has been focused of interest, this has prompted individual to turn to faith-based organizations as their integrity is always at stake. This research undertakes some of faith-based organizations within Oredo Local Government Area, their social welfare schemes, highlighting the main patterns of service selection for delivery of social welfare services, funding for these services, achievements in their social welfare delivery efforts and the major challenges faced in delivering social welfare services to beneficiaries. Ten (10) Faith-Based Organizations were study with interviews conducted with the management and project staffs. The beneficiaries of FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS’s within Oredo Local Government Area are carefully selected. They include; Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), Widows, People Living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (PLWHIV), poor destitute, etc. The program of FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS’s has included; care and support for these people as well as educating the girl child by letting them know their right and the importance of schooling. FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS’s has achieved a lot by equipping beneficiaries to aid them kick start a trade or business. Although, funding challenges has hindered full attainment of its missions.
