ABSTRACT
This study examines factors that influence students choice of studying fine art in the University of Benin, from the study there is an indication that there are different forces that determine the choice of studying fine art in University of Benin.
The procedure employed in carrying out this study is questionnaire as the instrument which was used in obtaining essential information from the sample population of the study.
According to the findings of the study, studying fine art in the University of Benin is because of their root in art, the historical background which cannot be argued with, the findings revealed that family, teacher and friends are not the major driving force behind the decision to study fine art in the University of Benin but the decision was entirely based on the economical, social and psychological factors. Through the study the researcher realized that the students face some challenges such as lack of fully equipped studios, high cost of art materials and that the University of Benin can help fix the studios, facilities and organizing periodic exhibitions, seminars and art competitions to improve students interest in studying fine art in it’s institution.
