ABSTRACT
This study examined factors responsible for poor performance in English Language Studies among junior secondary school students of Ovia South – West Local Government Area. The study raised four questions and four aim and objectives guided the study. The study adopted the survey research design which was used to source data from targeted respondents. The data was analysed using percentage, frequency tables and mean statistics. The result revealed that there is high level of poor students’ performance in English language in Ovia South –West Local Government Area. The parental involvement, teachers’ encouragement, parental support, and teachers’ demonstration can reduce student’s poor performance in English language in Ovia South –West Local Government Area. There are many factors responsible for poor performance of secondary school students in English language in Ovia South –West Local Government Area. Parental support can help promote students overall performance in English language and my English teacher introduces question section as a means of motivation during teaching.
