ABSTRACT
This study investigated the factors responsible for indiscipline among secondary schools students in Oredo local government area, Edo State. The purpose of this study was to determine what constitutes the acts of indiscipline among students, Assess the factors responsible for indiscipline among students in Oredo East Local Government Area of Edo state, Investigate teachers contributing to indiscipline in secondary schools, and examine the effect of mass media on indiscipline of students.
Descriptive survey research design was adopted to accomplish the purpose of the study. The population of the study consists of all thirty one thousand sixty four (31,064) students from fourteen (14) public secondary school in Oredo LGA and the sample size of all hundred and thirty (130) accessible secondary school student were selected for the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire developed by the researcher and was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts from the Department of educational management the reliability coefficient was 0.72 using Cronbach Alpha correlation coefficient method. The data collected were analyzed statistically using the statistical package of social sciences (SPSS) software.
The study revealed what constitutes the acts of indiscipline among students Oredo East Local Government Area of Edo State, as variables like There is no punishment imposed by the society on the undisciplined and Most schools are built in the centre of the town/village were disagreed to while Parents are too liberal and High level of poverty of parents were agreed to constitute the act of indiscipline. The study finally recommends that the home should live up to its earlier role of character formation, for a student can only be corrected when he had home training. But an unformed character does not see nor realize the impulse of discipline. The school should not be left by parents to mold their children into responsible citizens, when they have failed to lay the basic foundation.
