ABSTRACT
The study examined the factors militating against effective management of school records by secondary school principals in Benin Metropolis (Egor Local Government Area, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area and Oredo Local Government Area).
The descriptive research design was used for this work. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. Questionnaire was designed and used for data collection. A total number of one hundred and twenty (120) principals and vice principals (respondents) were used for the study. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count and percentages to answer the demographic data of respondents while mean and standard deviation was used to answer research questions.
Based on the findings, it was discovered that the secondary school principals and vice principals lack adequate and proper training in records management and there are no sufficient resources in records keeping. Therefore, schools and educational authorities must collaborate to provide training, allocate resources and establish clear policies that support principals in overcoming these obstacles.
