ABSTRACT

This study aims to assess the factors influencing the utilization of field trips in learning Biology in Ovia North East Local Government Area. Specifically, the research investigates the barriers hindering the effective use of field trips, examines the relationship between field trip implementation and academic performance in Biology, explores strategies for enhancing the integration of field trips into Biology education, and evaluates the impact of teachers' utilization of instructional materials during field trips on students' learning outcomes. A descriptive survey design was employed for this study, targeting Biology educators and students in Ovia North East Local Government Area. Stratified sampling was utilized, and questionnaires were administered to gather data from the selected participants. Validation of the study was achieved through face and content validity by supervisors and experts in the field. Analysis of the collected data was conducted using counts, frequencies, and percentages. The study revealed that various factors, including logistical challenges, funding constraints, and curriculum constraints, hinder the effective utilization of field trips in Biology education. Additionally, it was found that the implementation of field trips positively correlates with improved academic performance in Biology. Recommendations include the adoption of innovative strategies to overcome logistical and financial barriers, enhancement of teacher training programs to promote effective field trip planning and execution, and advocacy for the provision of adequate resources by educational authorities. The findings underscore the importance of integrating field trips into Biology education to enrich students' learning experiences and enhance their understanding of biological concepts.
