ABSTRACT
This research work investigated the factors influencing the successful organization of major sports events in the University of Benin, Benin City. To achieve this, the research was guided by eight (8) research questions. The population of the study consisted of 26 coaches and 1 sports director in the University of Benin. A census population was used to select all the respondents to represent the study. Additionally, a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The instrument was validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science. The Pearson correlation statistics were used to establish the reliability of the instrument, and the r-value of 0.83 was obtained. The data elicited from the sampled respondents was analyzed using frequency, mean, and standard deviation. The study showed that adequate funding, efficient security, and standard infrastructure and equipment are the major factors influencing the successful organization of major Sports events in the University of Benin. In the same vein, security, media, funding, and infrastructure all play significant roles in the organization of major sports events. These factors influence the successful organization of major sports events in the University of Benin, however, findings from the study revealed that gender stereotyping, cultural diversity, and politics do not influence the successful organization of major sports events in the University of Benin. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the successful organization of major sports events in the University of Benin requires consistent funding, prioritizing security measures, and investment in modern sports facilities and equipment. Meticulous planning, efficient organization, and robust logistics management should be implemented for the seamless execution of major sports events in the University of Benin.
