ABSTRACT
The study investigated the factors influencing the attitude of students towards the teaching profession in Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 160 students which were selected from the eight (8) Departments in the Faculty of Education, University of Benin. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. An analysis of data was done using frequency count and simple percentage. The findings from the study include that there is a positive attitude of students towards the teaching profession in University of Benin based on gender and discipline. It was concluded that peer group, parents, teachers working environment, societal respect and job security constitute the factors influencing the attitude of students towards the teaching profession in Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The study recommended among others that the federal government should as a matter of urgency restore the yearly allowance that hitherto was given to Education students. This will go a long way towards improving the attitude of students towards the teaching profession.
