ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to determine factors associated with mass failure in business studies in Ovia North East of Edo State.
Four research questions were raised to guide the study. A descriptive sample survey was adopted. A sample size of one hundred (100) was used, using the simple random sampling technique. A questionnaire containing twenty items was the instrument used in obtaining responses from respondents. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for research questions.
The finding included among others; that teaching and learning resource available contribute to mass failure of students in Business Studies to very high extent, that the socio-economic background of students contribute to mass failure of students to a very high extent, that the teachers qualification and instructional approach contribute to mass failure of students to high extent and that the majority of the items under this research question were accepted except item 5 which was rejected. The following recommendations were made; qualified and dedicated teachers should be employed without being biased, enough funds should be budgeted for education and utilized judiciously without diverting it for selfish interest, environment for instructional delivery should be conducive for learning with necessary teaching learning facilities put in place for effective learning to occur since poor academic environment leads to distractions, lack of interest and low morale for effective teaching and learning, and teachers should encourage their students-parent to create time to monitor their children academic and reduce their involvement in home chores.
