ABSTRACT

This study examined the Factors Influencing Students’ Academic Performance in Biology in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Descriptive survey research was adopted for the study. The sample size for the study was made of 100 respondents which were selected from ten (10) public Senior Secondary Schools in Egor Local Government Area. Analysis of data was done using mean score and standard deviation. The findings from the study include that class size significantly influence students’ academic performance in Biology in Egor Local Government Area. It was concluded that availability of resources, mastery of subject matter, class size and teachers’ qualification, all constituted the factors influencing students’ academic performance in Biology in Egor Local Government Area. The study recommended among many others that government should as a matter of urgency ensure adequate provision of classroom block for teaching and learning of Biology in public secondary schools as this will help mitigate the challenges of overcrowding.
