ABSTRACT
This study seeks to investigate the factors influencing staff motivation among social science staff of university of Benin. This study adopts the survey research design. The sampling method adopted Proportionate Sampling Technique for the study. Also, the purposive sampling technique was adopted this due to the fact that the study population was known. The sample size for this study was 100 respondents selected within the study location The importance of staff motivation cannot be overemphasized, there is need for stakeholders, management and policy makers to put the necessary measures in place as to up the stake of academic staffs motivation which will surely improve productivity and enhance positively performance. Universities and other tertiary institutions should take the issue of academic staff motivation seriously to facilitate effective teaching and delivery of knowledge.University management should make incentives more available to the academic staffs, as it serves as stimulant to arouse, direct and maintains goal directed behaviour. University management should set aside funds for sponsoring research and publications.Extrinsic factors such as prompt payment of salary, fringe benefits and good working conditions should be increased among academic staffs.
