ABSTRACT

This study investigates the Factors Influencing Gender Participation in Skill Acquisition Programmes in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.. In order to achieve this purpose, Four (4) research questions were raised to guide the study:

The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. A total of One Hundred and Twenty (120) women participants. That is thirty (30) women were selected from four (4) skills training or acquisition selected through simple random sampling technique. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability was determined through test-retest method. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count and percentage

The findings of the study revealed that the desire to raise economic status influences women participation in the various adult education programmes. It was further revealed that the social demand of women influences their participation in the in adult education programmes. It was therefore recommended that more awareness should be created by way of publicity in the various media outlets, using jingles and other forms of advertisement so that more women can be aware and participate in such programmes. It also recommended that the availability of necessary resources in terms of instructors, equipment’s, infrastructure is a key to successful participation in adult education programmes and should be improved. This will go a long way to stimulate women effective participation.
