ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to determine the factor influencing career choice; amongst secondary schools students in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

The survey research design was adopted for the study. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions guided the study. The sample size of fifty students was used for the study, Data was collected with the aid of well-structured and valid questionnaire; the data collected were analyzed using simple percentage.

The findings from the study showed that, parental values and family background influence secondary school student’s career choice to a great extent; prestigious job syndrome influence secondary school students’ in career choice to a very great extent.

Based on those findings and their implications, recommendations were made which include that adequate information about career choice should be given to the students by professional guidance counselor among others.
