ABSTRACT
This study titled ‘Factors influencing aggressive behaviour among adolescents’ explore the problem of aggressive attitude among adolescents. The study is aimed at investigating the factors that influence aggressive behaviours among adolescents and the effects of aggressive behaviour. The study used Our Lady’s Girls secondary school, Effurun, as case study. A sample of 380 adolescent students aged 10 – 19 years were administered questionnaires. The response of the respondents were analysed using simple percentages and hypothesis tested using chi-square test statistics. The findings of the study reveal that Frustration resulting from inability to achieve goals; Low family cohesion and family / parental conflict; Exposure to violence scene; Poor academic performance; Poor family background / family financial difficulties; Aggressive peer group influence among others influences aggressive behaviour among adolescents. It also identified increase in violence crime in the society; hostile learning environment in schools and increased frustration and negative feelings in the aggressive individual as the effects of aggressive behaviourism. It was recommended that Schools, communities and government should adopt violence control measures to help reduce the problem of aggressive behaviour among adolescents.
